2004

Château Puygueraud, Côte de Francs

bottle

£14.50

Owned by the Thienpont family of Château Le Pin & Vieux Château Certan fame. “From one of the reference point estates for the cooler climate Cotes de Francs appellation, the 2004 Puygueraud possesses a deep ruby/purple hue, a sweet perfume of black currants, licorice, and underbrush, medium body, and a soft style. It is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.” 87/100 Robert Parker

2004

Château Tournefeuille, Lalande-de-Pomerol

bottle

£20.50

The relatively humble appellation of Lalande de Pomerol belies the quality of Château Tournefeuille – only the small river Barbanne separates its vineyards from those of Château La Fleur Pétrus. The 2005 will follow and will repay laying down for 5 or more years.

2004

Larose de Gruaud, Saint-Julien

bottle

2002

Château Léoville-Barton, Saint-Julien 2ème Cru

bottle

£49.00

“Even better from bottle than from cask, and one of the finest wines of the vintage, this dense purple-colored 2002 reveals wonderfully sweet notes of charcoal, fresh mushrooms, smoke, earth, leather, cassis, and cedar. Full-bodied, highly extracted, broodingly backward, dense, and deep, this impressively endowed offering is built for the long term. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028.” 92/100 Robert Parker

2001

Château Quinault-l’Enclos, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

bottle

£36.00

“This blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc owes much of its extraordinary quality to the impeccable perfectionist efforts of Quinault’s owners, Dr. Alain Raynaud and his wife, Francoise. The 37-acre vineyard, situated within the Libourne city limits, includes some of the appellation’s oldest vines. This wine enjoys all of the state of the art, cutting edge winemaking techniques (i.e., cold fermentation, malolactic in barrel, aging on its lees, and no fining or filtration). Yields are kept to a modest 40 hectoliters per hectare. The 2001 is a worthy rival to the 2000. Deep purple to the rim, this vibrant red boasts a gorgeous bouquet of striking minerality intermixed with raspberries, blackberries, and hints of blueberries, espresso roast, and oak. Medium-bodied, elegant, and pure, with an intense mid-palate as well as a long finish.” Drink 2006-2019. 92/100 Robert Parker

2001

Réserve de la Comtesse, Pauillac

bottle

£39.50

The second wine of Château Pichon-Lalande – drinking well now. “The 2001 Reserve de la Comtesse, is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 11% Cabernet Franc. The wine was produced from 43% of the production and reveals complex aromas of cedar, tobacco, and black currants with a hint of chocolate in the background. A sweet attack is followed by a ripe, supple effort that should drink well upon release, and last for 10-12 years.” 87-88/100 Robert Parker

1996

Château Lanessan, Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois

bottle

£21.00

“A sleeper of the vintage, Lanessan's 1996 boasts an impressively saturated dark ruby/purple color, and knock-out aromatics of melted chocolate, asphalt, and cassis. Deep, rich, and medium-bodied, with excellent concentration and purity, this impressively-endowed, flavorful, well-structured wine should be at its finest between 2004-2016.” 88/100 R Parker

1996

La Réserve de la Comtesse, Pauillac

bottle

£44.50

The second wine of Château Pichon-Lalande. “The 1996 Reserve de la Comtesse is the finest second wine Pichon-Lalande has produced. A blend of 69% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc, this wine may merit a 90-point rating. It is a fat, sumptuously-textured, rich, hedonistically-styled wine that will surprise many consumers with its high quality. Drink 1999-2009.” 89/100 Robert Parker

1999

Château Potensac, Médoc Cru Bourgeois

bottle

£22.00

“…Offers aromas of earth, underbrush, and black currants...” 86/100 Robert Parker. Drink until 2010.

2001

Château Langoa-Barton, Saint-Julien 5ème Cru

bottle

£39.50

“Tobacco, spice box, cedar, and black currants offer a perfumed, complex introduction to this structured, beefy, muscular St.-Julien. As usual, a battle between the fruit and structure is being waged in this 2001, which appears to be a bit broader and more charming than most young Langoa Bartons. Drink 2008-2016.” 88/100 Robert Parker

1996

Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 5ème Cru

bottle

£99.00

“In the flight of young wines, with all the vintages of the nineties represented, this wine stood out for its absolute purity of crème de cassis, ripe fruit, medium to full body, high tannin, wonderful sweetness, massive richness on the mid-palate, and abundant power, density, and ripeness. It is clearly the finest Lynch Bages since the 1989 and 1990. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2025.” 94/100 Robert Parker
